Class Sizes and Protocols

Class sizes have been designed to maintain at least 6 feet between all students and faculty. In some instances, seats and desks may be blocked off to ensure social distancing.

The capacity of lecture and lab rooms has been determined by the Office of Environmental Health and Safety. Deans and department heads should work with Taz Winger to ensure classes meet the proper 6 feet of social distancing. Deans and department heads are responsible for ensuring capacity is not exceeded during the semester. Departments can request “no seat” signs through the Office of Facilities Management. These signs can be picked up at Central Receiving.

For courses that regularly interact with the public, deans and department heads should develop plans for how such interactions can occur in a safe manner. If this cannot occur, the courses should be redesigned or cancelled for the fall semester.

365体育官方网址Field trips are limited to sites within Lafayette Parish or one of the parishes immediately adjacent to it. Longer field trips must be optional. Students must drive or will have to arrange for their transportation to and from the site. An appropriate alternative activity must be provided to students who cannot attend the trip.

Remote advising options must be available to all students.

Testing centers will be designated in large rooms/arenas to reduce the risk of exposure for students when taking exams in-person.

Testing Center

365体育官方网址The University established a testing center at Blackham Coliseum for students taking exams for HyFlex courses, per the recommendation of the Ragin' Cajun Resiliency Plan Task Force subcommittee on Teaching and Learning.

365体育官方网址The testing center will be under the direction of Student Success Initiatives and staffed with graduate assistants who will provide proctoring and other clerical services. A faculty member or a designee must be present to administer the exam.

Faculty must reserve space at the testing center at least 72 hours in advance. The reservation process has two steps:

The center will reduce the cost of remote proctoring services and provide a space conducive to administering exams while maintaining social distancing. It will also adhere to local orders and ordinances of the City of Lafayette and the State of Louisiana’s Phased Reopening Model, and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Louisiana Department of Public Health.

Tech shortages and delivery delays possible

With a surge in demand nationwide for technology resources such as laptops and WiFi hotspots that enable teleworking, some companies are experiencing supply shortages and delivery delays. AT&T, Dell, Verizon, Apple, and others have reported challenges in fulfilling orders and keeping ahead of customers’ needs.

As a result, UL Lafayette, other higher education institutions and private companies are experiencing delays in having orders fulfilled and shipped. Though vendors are working to ramp up their production schedules, it will take a while to fulfill back orders.

UL Lafayette’s procurement, information technology, and telecommunications staffs ask for patience as they work to deliver the tools the University needs to continue its operational functions remotely.

Parking & Transit Changes Fall 2020

We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and are making transportation decisions as new information emerges. Please check back frequently for updates.

Buses & Shuttles to and from Cajun Field & Bourgeois Hall

Students who ride the buses to and from Cajun Field, Bourgeois Hall, and main campus will be required to wear a face mask or face covering. All buses will have limited seating — at most, that is 18 passengers at a time. Passengers will load and unload from the rear doors to limit exposure issues, and every other seat will be blocked to ensure social distancing.

It’s important to know that these added safety measures will make wait times for the buses longer. We encourage you to build more time into your schedule or use the on-campus paid parking spaces when possible to reduce wait times for the buses at Cajun Field (however, we understand this isn’t feasible for all students).

New Pay Lot Added on Mildred Street

365体育官方网址A new pay by the hour parking lot has been added for student and visitor use on Mildred Street behind the Continuing Education Building. This new lot will offer an additional parking option for students who would like to park closer to campus. This lot will operate the same as the pay by the hour floors in Girard Park Circle Parking Tower on campus. Individuals will pay for an estimated amount of time at the kiosks at the time they park their car.

When using the pay lots, individuals should make a note of their license plate information since this information is required during the payment process. Kiosks only accept a credit or debit card and do not accept cash. Individuals will enter their card in the slot and follow the prompts to complete the payment. Payment must be made at the time the car is parked for the estimated time the vehicle will be parked in the lot.

365体育官方网址There is an option to enter a phone number during the payment process. This allows the system to send a text message approximately 10 minutes before expiration time reminding them time is about to expire. If additional time is needed, replying to the text with minutes in 60 minute increments allows the system to charge their payment card for the additional time plus a convenience fee of 25 cents.
